These courses are structured and extensive with the aim of equipping all those interested in early childhood education with a strong fundamental understanding of the Montessori principles of Education.

What is the Montessori Method ?
Dr. Maria Montessori ; Italy’s first woman doctor developed an innovative educational methodology based on the natural stages of physical and cognitive development in children. According to her, all children have Sensitive Periods whereby they are extremely sensitive to environmental stimuli which makes learning easy. At the same time the mind of a young child can be termed the Absorbent Mind which takes information directly from their experiences to form the basis of their learning.

The Montessori Method offers a structured method of teaching and learning that allows the child to develop at this or her own pace. The methodology consists of carefully graded series of activities, with all the materials required at each stage and a through programme for teachers to adhere. The guiding philosophy of the Montessori Method is the belief that each child has a natural love of learning and is guided by the desire to learn about the world around them. Using appropriate methods and apparatus to tap into this natural period of learning accelerates the cognitive development of young children while developing a strong sense of independence and self-confidence. The specially designed Montessori apparatus encourages independent discovery learning in children and builds social skills as they work with the Directress and other children.

The Key Elements of the Montessori Method are :

  • Self Education Where the most profound learning tales place when the learner is directly and intricately involved in the learning process
  • Individual Instruction Where all instruction is conducted one-to-one to develop the unique individuality of each child
  • Didactic Materials Where specially designed apparatus are used to isolate concepts and teach children with concrete experience
  • Specially Prepared Environment Where the design of the environment allows children to make intelligent free choices
  • Trained Directress Where the role of the adult is NOT as a teacher but as an enabler
