Course
overview
Northumbria University School of Law is the largest law department in the North of England, it is well recognised nationally and internationally as a provider of undergraduate, vocational and postgraduate academic programmes in law.
Distance Learning Programmes
The distance learning programmes are taught over two years. Students can choose to complete the full two year LLM including submission of a final project. They can leave the programme after 18 months and gain a Postgraduate Diploma on successful completion of the taught elements of the course. Alternatively students can elect to leave the course after successful completion of the first three modules, acquiring a Postgraduate Certificate.
The structured distance learning programme allows participants to manage their own study time around the demands of work and other commitments. Full study schedules are provided with deadlines for the completion of individual modules.
The programmes are taught from a practical perspective enabling students to understand the law in context and to apply it to real life situations. Students are guided through each subject by comprehensive study materials, written by expert practitioners in the field. Written workbooks are available in hard copy and on the Law School's eLearning site. Students will also receive textbooks, supplementary reading materials and self-test questions and case studies. Students are encouraged to test their knowledge through practice essays and self-test questions, in order to monitor their progress. Case study answer guides in particular, provide useful guidance on technique, whilst indicating the standards to be expected at LLM level.
