EN 312 Academic Writing and Research (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: EN 111 & EN 210

This course is aimed at developing students' writing skills for various academic purposes, ranging from assignments, position papers, reports, and proposals to research papers. It teaches the acquisition and evaluation of evidence, integration of opinion and the appropriate process and forms for developing the academic paper. Students will display their understanding of the topics through a clear and effective final project paper, which incorporates all the elements taught in class.

EN 210 College Writing Skills (4 cr.)
A comprehensive study of a paragraph as a unit of composition, emphasizing organization of ideas, specific methods of development, and elements of style. The subject matter will include the grammar and syntax of sentence patterns, punctuation, and the mechanics of formal college writing. Frequent writing assignments both in and out of class will be conducted.

EN 111 Communication Skills (4 cr.)
This course addresses the need for students to function successfully in the academic classroom, by providing EFL/ESL student's appropriate speech and communication activities. These activities are designed to enhance English vocabulary and to recognize important associations and relationships between concepts presented for listening. It also familiarizes students with idiomatic expressions. The course further concentrates on enabling students to communicate naturally and informally in English. To enable all this the "learning by doing" approach is used.

BM 120 Introduction to Accounting (4 cr.)
This module provides the financial accounting principles of double entry, preparation of income statements and the balance sheet, inventory valuation, bank reconciliation statement, company accounts, cash flow statements, and ratios analysis of financial statements.

BM 221 Managerial Accounting (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: BM 120
This module aims to develop an understanding of management accounting, its procedures, techniques and criteria for the purpose of practice and corporate utilisation. Topics include cost-volume profit relationship, master budgeting, and variances of cost behaviour patterns.

BM 223 Finance (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: MA 124 & BM 231

This module introduces the investment and financing aspects of corporate finance theory. Topics include costs-volume-profit relationship, master budgeting, and variances of cost-behaviour patterns.

BM 150 Marketing (3cr.)
This is the basic marketing subject that introduces the basic concepts of marketing and the scope of a marketer. It includes topics like consumerism, green marketing, the elements of marketing such as product, price, place and promotion, which is commonly known as the marketing mix.

MA 124 Business Mathematics (3 cr.)
This module provides an introduction to basic business calculations. Topics include interest calculations and their applications in business, annuity, amortisation and sinking funds, shares and stocks, bankruptcy, index numbers, insurance, foreign exchange, and investment appraisal methods.

BM 211 Interpersonal and Business Communications (3 cr.)
This module aims at developing communication skills, which are relevant to the workplace and personal effectiveness when dealing with others. Communication between people satisfies a range of needs. For professionals working in the human service industry, being able to communicate effectively at an interpersonal level is absolutely critical if they are to reach their work goals. This module also provides an opportunity for students to improve some of their fundamental communication skills.

BM 230 Microeconomics (4 cr.)
This gives an introductory study of principles of Microeconomics. It focuses on how firms and individuals interact in the marketplace, and discusses about different types of market structure.

BM 231 Macroeconomics (4 cr.)
This module provides study of the principles of Macroeconomics. It covers factors determining the productivity, national income, and economic growth on countries. It also address role of government in anticipating issues such as inflation, unemployment and international trade.

BM 240 Business Law (3 cr.)
This module provides an understanding of the law in Malaysia relating to business. Topics include the law of contract, agency, partnership and corporations, sale of goods, consumer credit and hire purchase, and negotiable instruments. A brief overview of English and Australian Business Law will also be given to highlight areas of similarities and differences.

BM 250 Consumer Behaviour (4 cr.)
This subject focuses on various aspects of consumers and their behaviour. It includes factors that influence consumer behaviour such as culture, social, perception and other psychological aspects.

BM 212 Organisational Behaviour (3 cr.)
Prerequisite: BM 210

This module gives an introduction to human behaviour in the organisational setting and its managerial implications. Emphasis will be places on the application of theory to practical organisational issues. The module will consider research methodologies in organisational behaviour, perception, attitudes, stress, group behaviour, power and politics, conflict and organisational culture.

BM 251 Marketing Management (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: BM150

This module is designed to inculcate awareness among students on major strategies for marketing and to develop an understanding of the major functions of marketing management, which take place in the work environment.

BM 252 Advertising and Promotional Management (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: BM 150

This subject focuses on the various aspects of marketing communication, which includes the methods and the type of media involved. It also includes the concept of integrated marketing communication, which is widely used in today's marketing world.

BM 253 Marketing Research (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: MA 361

This subject focuses on the various aspects of research especially the methods used to gather the information needed in the marketing decision-making.

BM 210 Management Practice (3 cr.)
This module would enable students to understand and appreciate the values of the Eastern and Western Managerial Systems and Practices. It examines the work culture, work ethics and the operational mode of Eastern and Western oriented companies. Issues covered include work ethics, implementation, purpose, motivation, preparation and effectiveness of the managerial system. An integration of the 5's into the Japanese Managerial system would also be included into this module.

BM 312 Operations Management (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: MA 361

This module introduces the concepts of operations management, including planning and control, and total quality management.

BM 313 Strategic Management (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: BM 212

This module introduces the concepts and techniques in strategic management. A strategic decision-making model based on the underlying processes of environmental scanning, strategy formulation, strategy implementation, and evaluation and control provides an integrating framework for the study of this module.

BM 331 International Economics & Trade (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: BM 231

This module addresses the themes of international economics and trade. It covers exchange rate determination, theory and policy of trade policy, the world capital market and international factors movement.

CS 363 E-Commerce (4 cr.)
This module explains the development of the communications, standards and software components electronic commerce and the impact of e-commerce on business. The module involves the development of an e-commerce business plan based on identified current market needs and trends.

BM 370 Human Resource Management (4 cr.)
The study develops an understanding of relationship between Human Resource Management processes and strategic management. It focuses on the main functions of HRM, such as the environment of HRM, HR planning and recruitment, HR development and training, compensation and benefits, and employee relations.

BM 371 International Human Resource Management (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: BM 370

This module provides study of human resource practices in many of the countries of the world. It focuses on international HRM practices that confront multinational enterprise and some factors to consider in making those choices.

BM 351 International Business (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: BM 231

This study presents issues in international business as current as possible. It covers thorough review of economics and politics of international trade and investment, monetary system, some strategies, structures and functions of international business.

BM 352 International Marketing (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: BM 150

This subject covers the international aspect of marketing, which includes global marketing area and how marketers manage their global business and its marketing aspect.

BM 390 Business Diploma Project Paper (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: Four semesters in the Diploma program.

This module is aimed at assisting the students to integrate the skills and knowledge learnt to relate a solution to a realistic problem. The project should show maximal integration of skills and knowledge acquired across the modules covered. Students should submit a report that includes planning, implementation, and evaluation of a project.

BM 399 Business Internship (6 cr.)
Prerequisite: Four semesters in the diploma program.

The requirement is aimed for students to have life experience in the job market. They will be attached for at least 2 months at related organizations in or out of Brickfields College. Students need to submit a report concerning their activities, involvements, and experience at the organization. In addition a separate report from the organization about the student's performance will be provided to the school.

CS 101 Computer Fundamentals and Applications (4 cr.)
The class covers two aspects i.e. theories and applications. Topics include overview of computer components; computer software; communication and network frameworks; operating systems and user interface; systems development lifecycle including structured and object-oriented programming; the Internet and online resources; computer graphics and design; and mastery of application software such as word processor, spreadsheet, and database.

CS 102 Computer Ethics and Society (3 cr.)
The module studies the social impact, implications, and effects of computers and society; and the responsibilities of computer professionals in directing emerging technologies. Topics include history of computing; impacts of computer applications; computing careers and challenges; privacy and information; wiretapping and encryption; protecting software and other intellectual properties; and legal and ethical responsibilities of professionals.

CS 211 Structured Programming I (4 cr.)
The module covers fundamentals of programming constructions including structured programming development such as sequence, if/else, and while repetition structures; program control and loops; arrays; pointers; files, and general problem solving techniques. The emphasis is on modular programming and developing good programming style. The language to be used is C or C++.

CS 212 Structured Programming II (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: CS 211

This is a progression of Structured Programming I. It involves advanced programming techniques such as: user-defined functions and types, pointers, characters and strings, recursion and iteration, parameter-passing mechanisms, formatted Input/Output, library, abstract data types and algorithm, and intro to data structures such as push, pop, enqueue, and dequeue operations. Taught using C or C++.

CS 213 Java Programming (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: CS 212

Java is a very popular language for creating an applet or Web-based applications. Topics include lower level concepts such as: object-orientation, selection, arrays, classes, and repetition; to higher level concepts such as abstract classes and interfaces, linked data structures, java bean, and more.

CS 215 Visual Basic Programming (4 cr.)
Visual Basic is a programming language to create interactive graphical user interface and applications in the Windows environment. Topics covered include events, menu, dialog boxes, arrays, files, grid controls, animation, and graphics.

CS 231 Networking and Data Communication (4 cr.)
A general overview of principles of data communications and networking. Topics include data communication and open system networks, data transmission, protocol basis, local area network, wide area network, intranet, internet, and error detection.

CS 313 Object-Oriented Programming C++ (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: CS 212

Topics include objects; classes-objects, declaration, constructors and destructors; encapsulation; inheritance- private and protected members; polymorphism; templates and the standard templates library; operator overloading; C ++ input/output class hierarchy; and exceptions. Some aspects of C++ that are not object oriented are also introduced such as basic data structures.

CS 321 Multimedia Development (4 cr.)
The module covers contemporary interactive multimedia technology systems, focusing on types, applications, and theories of applications. In addition, students will learn how to digitise and manipulate images, voices, videos, and author a multimedia package.

CS 323 Web Page Development (4cr.)
Prerequisite: C321

The focus of the course is on the use of computational tools for creating and working with interactive information resources. Students will learn about creating documents that contain text, audio, image data, input request, response to request, and copyright issues. Languages (such as HTML and Java) will be used extensively to write programs for the interactive presentation of information.

CS 331 Data Structures (Algorithm) (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: CS 212

An extensive survey of important data structures and associated algorithms including stacks, queues, lists, hash tables, and graph. An introduction to algorithm efficiency measures is included as a tool for deciding among alternate algorithms, with examples of searching and sorting in arrays, hash tables, tree traversal, and search algorithm. Laboratory exercise involves using data structures and algorithms.

CS 333 Relational Database Management System (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: CS 212

Introduces the relational database model with emphasis on design that includes logical files, dictionaries, file securities, recoveries, flow diagrams, normalization, and integrity. Students are required to design and implement a relational database.

CS 341 Software Engineering (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: C212

Structured programming, program specification, program proving, modularity, abstract data types, composite design, software tools, software control, program testing, and team programming.

CS 361 Information Systems Management (4 cr.)
The module gives managers ability to work with IT practitioners and to contribute to the development of strategic and tactical plans for IT. Topics include IS concepts, IS structure, Computer Based IS, Artificial Intelligence, System Security, System Planning and Administration, and other technological issues.

CS 201 The Internet and WWW 1 (3 cr.)
The module covers on the introduction of the Internet and World Wide Web, Internet tools: Telnet, FTP, Gopher, how web browsers and plug-ins work, graphics file, copyright on the Internet, website security, and online synchronous and asynchronous communications.

CS 202 The Internet and WWW 2 (3 cr.)
Prerequisite: CS233

This is a progression of the Internet and WWW 1. The module covers website design and usability principles, browser issues, incorporating advanced multimedia features, general e-commerce issues, client pull technology, and push technology.

CS 242 System Analysis & Design (4 cr.)
This course focuses on business analysis using information systems methodologies and technical skills in an organizational environment as part of a business team. It includes the study of information structuring that will allow an information technology based solution to a business problem and practices techniques for business problem identification, definition, documentation, and the transition from the business requirements to a solution through the development of information models.

CS 224 Design for Multimedia 1 (4 cr.)
Introduction to multimedia technology and applications (text, image, video, audio, and graphics). Use of appropriate software: Macromedia Authorware.

CS 225 Design for Multimedia 2 (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: CS324

This is a progression of the Design for Multimedia 1. Emphasis on audio and video digitisation process. Use of appropriate authoring software such as Adobe Premier, and Sound Forge.

CS 326 3D Animation and Special Effects (4 cr.)
Students will be introduced to the animation basics, concepts, and techniques. Use of appropriate software such as 3D Studio Max.

CS 233 Multimedia Database and Networking (3cr.)
Students will learn on multimedia database concepts and multimedia networking in IT organization.

MA 125 Algebra and Trigonometry (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: High school Algebra

Topics include rectangular coordinates, functions, exponents and systems of linear equations, trigonometric - functions, equations and identities.

MA 361 Introduction to Statistics (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: M125 or upper level mathematics.

Specific methods for collecting, organising, presenting, and analysing data, as well as making decisions under uncertainty. Topics include population and sample, elementary sampling theory, elementary probability theory, probability distributions, hypothesis testing, and correlation.

MA 231 Discrete Mathematics
This course concerns process that consists of a sequence of individual steps. It includes the logic of Compound Statements; the logic of Quantified Statements; Sequence and Mathematical Induction; Set Theory; Counting; Functions; Graphs and Trees.

MA 211 Calculus
This course provides an introduction to basic concepts and applications in Calculus. This course includes Functions and their Graphs; Limits and their Properties; Differentiation; Basic concepts, Additional Applications of the Integration; Integration Techniques; Exponential & Logarithmic Functions.

CS 251 Computer Architecture
This subject is about the structure and function of computers. Its purpose is to provide a thorough discussion of the fundamentals of computer organization and architecture and to relate these to contemporary design issues.

CS 390 ICT Diploma Project Paper (4 cr.)
Prerequisite: Four semesters in a diploma program.

LAN 1001 Bahasa Kebangsaan A (3 cr.)
The course is designed for Malaysian citizens to command the intellectual level of language efficiency. Topics include types and styles of the language in written documents; vocal, spelling, and grammar systems; making conclusion and expansion of ideas, ability to communicate efficiently in oral and written aspects.

LAN 1002 Bahasa Kebangsaan B (3 cr.)
This course is designed for Non-Malaysian citizens and it includes the introduction to the Malay language. Topics include the language's daily practice, spelling and pronunciation systems, as well as grammar.

LAN 1003 Pengajian Malaysia (3 cr.)
The course includes the history, politics, constitution, social integration, nation development, as well as current issues in Malaysia.

LAN 1004 Pengajian Islam (3 cr.)
It covers the basic concept of Islam; institutions in Islam such as social, education, economy, legal, and administration. It also covers the concept of Art and its manifestation in the culture, as well as current issues.

LAN 1005 Pendidikan Moral (3 cr.)
The course includes definition of moral, theories and systems of value, religious and beliefs, human moral, conflicts and solution, and other moral issues.
